EV Adoption in Hawaii - We’re over 36,000 passenger EVs!

As of February 2025, there were 36,387 registered EVs in Hawaii, an increase of 5,703 vehicles (18.6%) over February 2024. This represents 3.4% of the 1,079,913 registered passenger vehicles in the state.

Electric freight vehicles (now at 881) represent 1% of our 78,476 freight vehicle fleet.

Adoption is accelerating across the state, with very positive YoY growth. This is very positive, but more must be done to accelerate adoption. Hawaii consumes nearly 40,000,000 gallons of gasoline and diesel each month, and gas and diesel vehicles represent about 96% of registered passenger vehicles.
