EV Adoption in Hawaii - We’re over 37,000 passenger EVs!
As of April 2025, there were 37,192 registered EVs in Hawaii, an increase of 5,689 vehicles (18.1%) over April 2024. This represents 3.4% of the 1,080,857 registered passenger vehicles in the state.
Electric freight vehicles (now at 984) represent 1.2% of our 78,831 freight vehicle fleet.
Adoption is accelerating across the state, with very positive YoY growth. This is very positive, but more must be done to accelerate adoption. Hawaii consumes nearly 40,000,000 gallons of gasoline and diesel each month, and gas and diesel vehicles represent about 96% of registered passenger vehicles.
