“When it comes to electrifying transportation, heavy-duty vehicles lag far behind”

The electrification of transportation is underway and great progress is being made in the light-medium duty vehicle space. Heavier vehicles present a bigger challenge, something that will eventually be solved with a variety of solutions, e.g., batteries with increased energy density, opportunity charging, high-speed charging, and even fuel cells. While a common concern raised about battery freight trucks is the weight of the required battery pack, current solutions, e.g., the Tesla Semi, suggest that the gross weight difference between an electric truck and a standard class 8 diesel truck is minimal.

This Emerging Tech Brew article summarizes the global challenge and developments that will help pave the path for heavy vehicles.
