Drive Electric Earth Month in Hilo with Big Island EV
On April 17, Big Island EV participated in the annual La Honua 2025 Earth Day Fair, which included scores of local organizations focused on climate action and sustainability. About 900 students and their teachers attended the event. We estimated 400 students visited our booth, which included giveaways and a prize wheel to engage the audience.
At this event, we displayed two EVs, a Kia Niro EV and a Kia EV6, and a table filled with materials for the audience. Attendees were allowed to spin the wheel and answer an electric vehicle or energy-related question corresponding to the number they landed on. If they got the correct answer, they got a snack. (If they missed the answer, we took the opportunity to educate them, and they also got a snack.) This was a hit and appealed to all grade levels.
We also handed out information on EVs to share with the adults in their households. Some adults had questions about EVs, and some EV owners raised questions about charging and service. Overall, it was a really busy and productive event.
As usual, our Big Island EV Ambassadors, including Noel Morin, Stephanie Hall-Morin, and Lorn Douglas, manned the booth and minded the large groups of students that visited throughout the event.
Drive Electric Earth Month is presented by Plug In America, Electric Vehicle Association, Sierra Club, EVHybridNoire, and Drive Electric USA.
