NDEW 2024 with Kauai EV

Our NDEW event was a resounding success. We had great weather and a strong turnout from local EV owners and members of the public. Key stakeholders in Kauai’s sustainable energy future, such as representatives from the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative, were also present. Christina Kaser from the County of Kauai brought along the County's Subaru Solterra.

Local EV owners—including active members of Kauai EV and the Tesla Hawaii Club—enthusiastically showcased their electric vehicles. They engaged with attendees, answered questions about EV ownership, costs, and charging logistics, and encouraged hands-on experience with the cars on display. This helped spark conversations about the practical aspects of owning and maintaining an EV on Kauai and provided valuable insight into how EVs can seamlessly integrate into daily life on the island.

Here are the EV models represented at the event:

  • Rivian R1S and Rivian R1T

  • Subaru Solterra

  • Tesla CyberTruck, Model 3, and Model Y

  • Chevy Bolt

  • Kia Niro EV

  • Ford Lightning EV

  • Electric Bikes

The Rivian and Tesla CyberTruck were particularly popular, drawing in many families, as children encouraged their parents to stop by and see these unique vehicles. Our event even attracted several visitors after a nearby church service, underscoring our community’s curiosity and openness toward electric transportation.

Thanks to the event, we gained several new members for Kauai EV. Many attendees were inspired by the event to join our organization and participate actively, volunteering to help plan future events. Their fresh perspectives and commitment will enhance our next gatherings and broaden our outreach efforts.

Kudos to Kauai’s EV Ambassadors - Michael Albatrosov, Steve Parsons, Liz Hahn, and Ruta Jordans - for orchestrating this event.
